I have been, first at TekLinks, and then C Spire, for nearly a decade so posting this is something I do not do lightly. But a great opportunity presented itself and I've decided to take a role at Kemper Insurance in their IT department. I'm really excited for this new challenge but I am absolutely crushed leaving everyone I've gotten to know over the years. I have had a chance to get to know so many folks through this role and I will cherish my time at this company. Many of you really had a massive impact on me and I hope to stay in touch. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need anything (even if it's to chat) any time and I wish everyone the best!
We escaped out to Tybee Island for the Fourth of July weekend and had a wonderful time! It was our first time out visiting and there was so much to see and do we are hoping to go again and explore, especially Savanah, Georgia since we only got a taste of the beautiful architecture and history.
A boy enjoying our view!
Exploring Oatland
Our first adventure was at Oatland Wildlife Center where we were able to walk the nature trails and get up close and personal with wildlife from all over the Southeast.
The Heard and the Bobcat
Prowling bobcat
Moss! It's everywhere!
Some silly birds.
Bald eagles for the Fourth!
Armadillos up close!
Grey wolf, watching us closely
Grey wolf after feeding
Grey wolf pack
Oatland - at one point this was the home of the nascent CDC.
The Pirate's House
Samantha had reserved lunch at The Pirate's House after exploring Oatland at the Pirate House, an actual tavern that consisted of several buildings that were the original houses built in Georgia. And of course, we ran into these buccaneers!
Yo ho ho, a pirates life for me!
Beaches and dolphins
There were so many dolphins! Or at least a large pod that lived right there. Either way, they were a constant presence right where we were staying, feeding, and playing. However, the crabs were not to be messed with, one jumped me and nearly took my saddle with him. He may have had a knife...
Dramatic recreation.
The beach
Smiling for the camera is hard!
We are already planning a return trip for longer to explore all of Savanna and enjoy more of Tybee Island as it was a gorgeous area!
No one likes passwords. And everyone is trying to replace them, even Apple! This year at #WWDC21 they announced they are working on a new private/public key authentication method designed to replace passwords entirely. If you have ever dug into using your terminal and SSH, then this should feel familiar. Simply create a private and public key on your computer and only share the public key with sites that you want to share your identity with. One of the challenges with SSH keys is managing them on multiple devices and with multiple sites. For Apple's solution, they are using iCloud to sync the keys and offering tools to help you manage this process, making key management seamless. If you are interested, I recommend watching the presentation for a peek at what's coming soon!
This is super a interesting acquisition by Automattic. While I stopped using Day One after they went to their subscription model, I always really enjoyed the app and their design aesthetic. I hope this bleeds over to the Wordpress app a bit as the editor needs some love; especially on iOS!
